A Cookbook!

Jed had a fond love of all things food. We have a story about Jed's cooking that we tell often that involved him marinating chicken. We grill often in the summer (basically every night) and Jed wanted to marinade the chicken for our dinner that night.

As I ate it a few hours later I tasted ketchup, mustard, italian dressing... basically everything that was on the door of our fridge. Then I realized, that's what the chicken had soaked in - literally everything that had been on the door of our fridge (which included strawberry jelly). But it was good!

He always enjoyed helping with Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner and looking up new recipes of all kinds. We are a food-loving family and appreciate the importance of recipes passed down through generations. We know the love that goes into each ingredient and appreciate the stories behind each dish.

The Jedediah Thomas Smith Foundation is putting together a cookbook!

We are excited about the way that the Terrace Room has turned out after our few weeks of work at Wisehaven! This space means a lot to us as do the incredible people that work there.

Prior to the wallpaper coming down and various other upgrades the Terrace Room was a space that often got overlooked. It is now a fresh, neutral and warm room that is functional to almost anyone!

Donations

We're a little bit behind but we are proud to let you all know that on January 26, 2012 we made our first donation to Gamma Phi Beta and ACACIA THON!

We are excited to have been able to donate $4,500 towards their THON 2012 total! We plan to donate annually towards their efforts to conquer childhood cancer.

There are only 7 DAYS LEFT until THON 2012! If you are interested in donating please visit www.THON.org and click "Donate Now." The mission of the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon is to conquer pediatric cancer by providing outstanding emotional and financial support to the children, families, researchers and staff of the Four Diamonds Fund.

Don't forget to credit your donation to Gamma Phi Beta or ACACIA. The students in these organizations are like family to us and have been a constant source of support for over eight years. They knew Jed best and carry on his memory.

You can also support THON by donating to the Jedediah Thomas Smith Foundation. A portion of our funds raised annually will be donated to THON's efforts via Gamma Phi & ACACIA. Donation information can be found at the top of the page!

In addition to our donation to Gamma Phi Beta and ACACIA THON, this past month we are grateful for the opportunity to be able to help our second family. Sadly this family lost their son to the devastating effects of childhood cancer. We are blessed to play a small role in helping to cover final costs for the family. Thanks to our donors we are able to make a family breathe a little easier during that most painful time.

Wisehaven Renovations

It has been a busy few months for us and we are very grateful for some interesting opportunities to give back that have come to us.

We have been so lucky to have a great friend at Wisehaven Banquet and Expo Center, Louise Soskin, who graciously allows us to use the facilities. This is we held out crab feed over the summer and where our movie night will be March 10th (more information to come on that).

The upper room at Wisehaven, the Terrace Room has an interesting story behind it and has been in need of some upgrades which - because of reasons out of Louise's control - could not be made. Because we use the facility often, we decided to donate some time and supplies in order to make it a more useful space.

DURING RENOVATION: All lighting fixtures were painted brushed nickel (previously an outdated gold)

DURING RENOVATION: The back wall by the kitchen. The brick was painted white and the faux shingles were removed! The paint color is our favorite part of the renovation!

We are amazingly proud to say that making the Terrace Room a more neutral color palate, updating the fixtures and replacing outdated mismatched art with black and white photographs has made the room easier to book for the Wisehaven staff! More photos to come as the project is completed!
